Geological survey specialists have started carrying out geological survey works to refine the state geological map
According to the press-service of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Republic of Kalmykia, geological specialists have started regional geological surveying works in Kalmykia to refine the state geological map.
The new mapping, which will be completed by 2025, will significantly expand geological exploration and get a complete picture of the subsoil of the region, said Ochir Dzhambinov, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Kalmykia.
Geological survey specialists have started carrying out geological survey works to refine the state geological map.
“Specialists of the All-Russian Karpinsky Research Geological Institute in accordance with the state assignment of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use have started regional geological survey works in the north of the republic. The goal is to complete geological mapping, compiling a geological map that will serve as the basis for planning prospecting and exploration work to find mineral deposits. The map is planned to be ready by 2025”, said the Minister of Natural Resources and explained that oil and gas fields are of primary interest.
Studies of the scientists will make it possible to study the geological history of the region, its geological structure and make conclusions about the presence of minerals. A map on a scale of 1:200,000 is also needed to carry out engineering and geological surveys for land reclamation and water supply.
It is noted that the Republic of Kalmykia is in the water deficit zone, water supply sources have high mineralization, and only 7.4% of the region’s population is provided with high-quality potable water.
“Mapping was conducted in Kalmykia only in the 1970s, so clarification and updating of mineral deposits in the republic is necessary. The new mapping will significantly expand geological exploration and provide a complete picture of the region’s subsoil. The updated geological maps will serve as the basis for subsequent exploration, engineering and research, and scientific works,” added the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Kalmykia, Ochir Dzhambinov.
