18-year old Elmira Abdrazakova, from Mezhdurechensk, was crowned “Miss Russia 2013” during the annual event held on March 2nd. New Miss Russia Elmira Abdrazakova, who was crowned by reigning Miss World Yu Wenxia, stands 1.63 m tall and will represent Russia in both the Miss World and Miss Universe competitions in 2013.

Miss Russia Elmira Abdrazakova is a student of economics and as her prize, she gets 100,000 USD.

The 1st runner-up was Anastasia Yazykova from Yaroslavl, and the 2nd runner-up was Irina Tumanova from buddhist Kalmykia. Read the rest of this entry »

On February 1-2, the FIDE President visited Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. He participated in the congress of the Kyrgyzstan Chess Federation and had meetings with the country’s Government.

On the first day of his official visit President Ilyumzhinov met with Erlan Abdyldaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Kyrgyzstan.

Macroeconomic environment in 2012 deteriorated again – to slow down the dynamics of investment and economic growth in general, increased interest rates on loans to business, not increased certainty in the international markets. On 30 November, in Moscow, the official signing of Memorandum on the establishment of an investment fund for the implementation of investment projects in Russia and the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries between Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and the Chinese investment fund manager “Gaoneng” Xu Ping took place.

Former president of Kalmykia Kirsan Ilyumzhinov – Honorary Citizen of the city of Burgas.

On the 26th of July the 1st President of Kalmykia, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov paid an official visit to Bulgaria, where in Sofia he met with the Bulgarian Prime-Minister H.E. Boyko Borisov. During the meeting the issues of chess development as well as possibilities of investment projects realization in Bulgaria by international business circles were discussed.

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov garners an awful lot of press for the president of the World Chess Federation. But he’s not exactly your average chess buff. From 1993 to 2010, he was president of the Russian republic of Kalmykia and became known for his efforts to transform the remote Buddhist region into an international chess mecca as well as for his frank comments about an encounter with aliens he claims to have had in 1997.
