Kirsan Ilyumzhinov garners an awful lot of press for the president of the World Chess Federation. But he’s not exactly your average chess buff. From 1993 to 2010, he was president of the Russian republic of Kalmykia and became known for his efforts to transform the remote Buddhist region into an international chess mecca as well as for his frank comments about an encounter with aliens he claims to have had in 1997. Prague, Czech Republic, 1 December 2008 – His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived in Prague, the capital of Czech Republic on November 29 morning from Frankfurt by a private plane. His Holiness is in Prague at the invitation of former President Vaclav Havel and Forum2000 from 29 November to 1 December 2008.
His Holiness was received at the airport by the Indian Embassy’s First Secretary and Mr. Olda Cerny Executive Director of Forum2000. On arrival at the hotel, His Holiness was welcomed by the members of the Tibetan Community.

July 3, AVIA.RU – The Government of Kalmykia and the Austrian company Diamond Aircraft intend to establish a joint venture assembly of light-engine aircrafts in the republic, hoping to come up with this product to the private market and in the small special aviation field, informs the newspaper “Kommersant” in Volgograd.
