His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Russian Representative Dr. Ngawang Rabgyal visited Elista city, capital of Republic of Kalmykia from 21 to 24th May, reported Central Tibetan Administration (Dharamsala). His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Russian Representative Dr. Ngawang Rabgyal was invited as a guest on the occasion of 400th anniversary of Kalmykia becoming a part of Russian Federation.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived in Prague, Czech Republic
Prague, Czech Republic, 1 December 2008 – His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived in Prague, the capital of Czech Republic on November 29 morning from Frankfurt by a private plane. His Holiness is in Prague at the invitation of former President Vaclav Havel and Forum2000 from 29 November to 1 December 2008.
His Holiness was received at the airport by the Indian Embassy’s First Secretary and Mr. Olda Cerny Executive Director of Forum2000. On arrival at the hotel, His Holiness was welcomed by the members of the Tibetan Community.
While speaking to the Czech TV, His Holiness spoke about his long association with Czech Republic and especially with President Havel. His Holiness also spoke about the present dialogue with China. This is His Holiness’ seventh visit to Czech Republic. Read the rest of this entry »
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov congratulated the birthday of Buddha
Celebrating a birthday, enlightenment and passing away of the Buddha Sakyamuni parinirvana in Elista, resulted in an unforgettable celebration in honor of the three signs of Teachers. His magnificently celebrated in many Buddhist countries. Since 2000, this holiday is officially included in the calendar of UNESCO.
Congratulated the residents and visitors with a bright celebration of Kalmykia Republic of Kalmykia President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov. Key in his speech became a phrase: “We pray that His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama arrived in Elista in September after the Beijing Olympics.” Among the VIP-persons present at the ritual service, was a famous traveler Fyodor Konyukhov. Kalmykia history
The Kalmyks originate from Central Asia. Their ancestors — the Oirats — belonged to the western branch of Mongolian peoples and represented a very powerful alliance of tribes which were formations of the early feudal state under which dominion the whole Mongolia was in the first half of XV сentury. Consequently interregional conflicts and a number of military bad lucks caused the reduction of Oirat Empire.

Russia grants Dalai Lama a visa

Russia says it is granting a visa to the Tibetan exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, for the first time since the collapse of the USSR.
This will allow him to visit the large Buddhist population in southern Kalmykia region.

Ilyumzhinov, Vanga, Dalai Lama and Kalmykia
Taking the decision to run for president of Kalmykia, I realized clearly that people were fed up with continuous elections, political intrigues and playing at democracy. What Kalmykia needed was a dramatic change of structure and attitude which would take the needs of the people into consideration, and would awaken and instill in each citizen the belief that he could, and must, earn a real wage for real work, rather than the miserable pennies which he was paid now. The republic must quickly embrace a market economy before it was too late.

During his second visit to Kalmykia (Elista) in September 1992 His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama said, “The aim of my visit is to establish harmony: harmony with the environment, harmony among religions, harmony in the society and family and, – in the end, harmony of a man with his own self. I am stressing a great importance of this because everything depends on harmony in the world”.
